If you want to see some of the best science fiction movies of the year, then you’ve come to the right place. From the classics to the new releases, we’ve got you covered. Take a look at Snowpiercer, Inception, Le Voyage Dans La Lune, and The Adam Project.
Snowpiercer
A cult classic, Snowpiercer is a sci-fi film with a brilliant cast and a storyline that keeps a steady pace while reflecting the motives of its characters. Although delayed from a Western release because of post-production problems, the movie is one of the most accomplished of its genre. The film avoids the pitfalls that plague other sci-fi movies, and works in all areas where it should fail.
The film starts with a sinister premise: mankind has destroyed the Earth through global warming. In the aftermath, only a small number of people remain alive. Surviving survivors are trapped on a giant train that keeps circling the globe in perpetual motion and requires no maintenance. As the laws of thermodynamics become a reality, logic goes out the window. The movie begins to feel like an absurdity, but it’s a surprisingly powerful one.
The cast is a solid ensemble, with Jamie Bell as a likable protagonist, John Hurt as a limb-less wise man, and Tilda Swinton as Mason, the matriarch. The film is a little uneven in tone and has some comic relief that’s too silly.
This sci-fi action movie is also a masterpiece of high-art. Inspired by a biblical parable, it is set in the 23rd century. Directed by French experimental filmmaker Claire Denis, the film is a work of art that breaks the rules of conventional narrative storytelling.
Inception
Inception is one of the most successful sci-fi movies in recent history, starring Leonardo DiCaprio as a professional thief who steals secrets from his targets’ minds. When one of his targets, Saito, tracks him down, he offers him a chance to return home, but only if he can perform a process called “inception” to get it done.
Inception combines visionary science-fiction with classic Hollywood grandeur to create an epic movie. Its enormous sets and over 2,000 costumes make it an impressive production, and the script by Jon Spaihts and Eric Roth draws heavily from the Lord of the Rings for its world-building.
Another science-fiction film of 2022 is Moon, a dystopian thriller from director Duncan Jones. Set on a lunar base, Moon shows the power of knowledge. Sam Rockwell’s character must grapple with the knowledge that he’s a clone and that his mission is part of a much bolder experiment.
Another sci-fi movie set in space is Clones, starring Sam Rockwell. This film also explores corporate corruption and the commodification of human life. This sci-fi movie also features an alien storyline. Jonathan Glazer’s Under the Skin stars Scarlett Johansson.
Time Lapse is another sci-fi movie set in a parallel universe, where three friends find a time machine and use it to take pictures of the future. The plot of the film is similar to Inception, and Time Lapse received a 78% score on Rotten Tomatoes. If you’re interested in watching it, you can watch it on Amazon Video, Sky Store, or Virgin TV Go.

Le Voyage Dans La Lune
Le Voyage dans la Lune is one of the best science fiction movies ever made. Based on Jules Verne’s novel of the same name, it depicts a group of astronomers who go on an expedition to the moon. The film is filled with fantasy and has a large cast, but it makes no claim to realism. Its tone is satirical of science, but it’s still one of the best science fiction movies of the 20th century.
The movie’s most memorable scenes include the famous Selenites scene, which features an antropomorphic Saturn, crescent moon, and stars. The movie also features stunning backgrounds and incredibly detailed costumes. A few memorable characters from the movie include Melies, the moon, and hostile aliens.
Another film that can be considered one of the best science fiction movies of the 20th century is A Trip to the Moon. This 1902 silent film is often considered the first science fiction film. While it received some negative reviews, it was nonetheless a hit with audiences. The film won an Oscar for best special effects, and was far more successful than its predecessor, Forbidden Planet.
A Trip to the Moon is another film that starred Georges Melies. This French film is a satire on colonialism and the scientific establishment, and it makes for a clever anti-colonialist movie. The movie even mocks the pompous nature of the scientific establishment, as the characters arrive on the moon.
The Adam Project
The Adam Project is a sci-fi movie from 2022 that stars Ryan Reynolds as a time-traveling pilot. While pursuing his mission, he crashes in the year 2022 and meets his 12-year-old self. Together, the two work to accomplish his goal. The film is produced by Skydance Media, Maximum Effort and 21 Laps Entertainment and stars Ryan Reynolds, Jennifer Garner, Walker Scobell, and Zoe Saldana.
The story follows Adam and his father, who discovered time-travel technology and died when he was young. Later, Adam visits his father’s world in the future, only to find out that he was able to use it in the past. The young Adam is a nerd, and he gets excited by his close encounters with other people. He also observes his older counterpart using a lightsaber to cut timecops. The two also work together to save Laura from an attack by Maya.
The Adam Project is another Netflix original movie that blends action and childlike wonder. It takes inspiration from 80s movies like Back to the Future, The Goonies, and Explorers. The plot of The Adam Project is very different from those films, but there are several similarities.
Ryan Reynolds portrays Adam with exuberant energy. His character is full of self-mocking and pokes fun at his adversaries.
Split Second
If you are looking for a good b-movie this year, look no further than Split Second. It is up there with Army of Darkness in terms of amusement value. It tells the story of a gritty cop and his sidekick, who are assigned the task of tracking down a mystery killer with superhuman strength, speed, and guns.
Split Second takes place in a dystopian London in the near future. A strange killer is stalking the streets of London, and the veteran cop Harley Stone, whose partner was killed by the killer, will stop at nothing to catch him. He works with his rookie replacement, Detective Dick Durkin, to stop the serial killer and save his girlfriend. The film also features an alien monster that threatens the city’s residents.
While Split Second doesn’t quite reach the heights of the best movies of the year, it does have its moments. The premise is entertaining, the action sequences are neat, and the cast is on top of their game. Kim Cattrall, who was at the peak of her career at the time of production, is terrific as the sex-object, and Rutger Hauer’s role as the violent cop is very funny.
After Yang
After Yang is an American science fiction drama film directed by David Kogonada. It stars Colin Farrell, Jodie Turner-Smith, Justin H. Min, Malea Emma Tjandrawidjaja, and Haley Lu Richardson, and follows a family’s attempts to repair a robotic child. It premiered at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival and was released in theaters on March 4, 2022 by A24. Critics have generally praised the film.
While “After Yang” may start off as a parody of progressive parenting, it really comes into its own once Jake unlocks Yang’s memory bank. As he learns that the android has emotions, he is mesmerized. The movie explores the meaning of sentience and whether humanity can accept technology. Its slick sci-fi aesthetic is understated, but has bristles underneath it.
After Yang explores the concept of identity. Yang is Asian, and his role in the movie is to bridge the gap between Mika and her heritage. But Yang is also longing for a deeper connection with himself, and he seeks experiences that reflect his true identity.
Yang is a so-called techno-sapien, a man with extraordinary patience and an endless supply of Chinese fun facts. The family is planning to replace Yang, but Jake wants to save him because he has a deep affection for Mika. In addition, the robot will reassure Mika that she is still a member of the family.
